Roscommon PPN Secretariat Seat Vacant: Social Inclusion Electoral College Representative

Following a recent call for nominations for a vacant Social Inclusion Secretariat seat four nominations were received. All groups registered under the Social Inclusion electoral college will be eligible to vote. Voting slips have been sent to all eligible members and must be returned by Friday 21st July 2017. A short profile of each nominee can be seen below.

Candidate Profiles

Kieran Guihen (East Connaught Development Centre)
Kieran is a founding member and former secretary of East Connaught Development Centre (ECDC). Kieran has worked for many years to build the capacity and resilience of disadvantaged and socially excluded individuals in the area. This includes unemployment and underemployed and people isolated for various reasons in the catchment area. The centre greatly values Kieran’s volunteer work which is done quietly and consistently which has made a huge difference, impacting positively on so many people. ECDC believe that Kieran has so much experience and skills to share with this committee given the opportunity to do so.

Bernard Kearney (Fourmilehouse Housing Association)
Bernard has been involved with community groups for the past 40 years. He was also involved with the Community Forum from 1998 when it started to 2014, he has a good all-round knowledge of the whole area of social inclusion and community development.

David O’Connor (Roscommon Safe Link)
David has been chairperson of the organisation for the last 5 years. He has led the organisation from its infancy through difficult times and continues to do so.

Michael Scally (Ballaghaderreen Anti-social Behaviour Support Group)
Michael is the founder member of the Ballaghaderreen Anti-social Behaviour Support Group that comprises of the Health Board, VEC, Roscommon Co. Co. & voluntary groups in the area that meet regularly with An Garda Siochana to monitor and prevent anti-social behaviour in the community. The group have succeeded in getting a dramatic drop in crime & burglaries in the general area & liaise with teachers & clergy promoting good citizenship. Michael is a retired vocational teacher and former member of Roscommon Co. Co.
